August 2018.
Benjamin Markovits' new book A Weekend in New York is superb; a book where nothing much happens and everything happens. It seems to me that there is more truth stuffed into its 350 pages than most authors muster in a lifetime. And while I don't normally like the idea of a 'summer holiday read' I can't think of a better way to describe Emma Cline's The Girls. It's a racing, engaging tale of one girl's relationship with a Charles Manson-like guru.
Netflix's The Staircase is a terrific long-form murder mystery documentary that grabbed me and left me wondering. And I really enjoyed the Audible documentary series The Dark Web.
Alt-J have started releasing some hip hop versions of songs on their last (underrated) album, which I really like. And the Underworld/Iggy Pop EP has some hilarious moments on it; not classic stuff but funny, inventive and engaging.
