October 2018.
Music. Some good new releases already this month include Phosperescent’s C’est La Vie which will appeal if you like The War on Drugs. I have also been listening to Echo and The Bunnymen’s new record The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon which is mainly new versions of old songs. And what songs they are. There was a time when I loved this band and the reworked songs have really stood the test of time well. There’s a good new song there, too. I can’t recommend Maribou State’s Kingdoms in Colour too highly; it’s an electronic record of real warmth and colour with some amazing tunes. I also like Alt J’s new record Reduxer which has new hip hop versions of their last album which I think is terrific and was probably underrated. James Blake has a new single (roll on the album) called Don’t Miss It which is everything I love about his music, dark, very beautiful and wonderfully constructed. A grower and probably something young people will enjoy on headphones (I’m not really into headphones unless I’m travelling or running).
The Royal Academy’s Oceania show is truly worth a visit. If you don’t live in London consider a trip. It’s a multi-layered show focusing on art, craft, politics, history, travel and beauty. It’s educational, sometimes witty and incredibly well put together. I loved it.
